My father and I, Apeldoorn, circa 1988.

My name is Dylan Mirek Popowicz, and I am an Assistant Professor, and the Chair of the Department of Philosophy at American River College. I received my PhD in philosophy from the University of California, Irvine.

My research focuses on epistemological problems connected to our notions of expertise and epistemic authority. My dissertation, ‘Epistemic Authority, Autonomy, and Humility’, focused on the nature of the epistemic relationship between experts and non-experts. More broadly, I am interested in social and applied epistemology. I have further interests in the philosophy of medicine and psychiatry, bioethics, the meaning of life, and anti-natalism.

In my spare time I enjoy cooking and reading. I have a perhaps unhealthy love of video games, and would argue that Dark Souls forever changed my life for the better. I find comfort in the presence of cats, guinea pigs, and grey skies (as befits my British heritage).
